How are donations distributed and used?

  • We rely on gifts from individuals, corporations and other groups to fund our house-building mission. All donations of any amount are deeply appreciated and help us build more decent, affordable homes with more families in Adams and Juneau County WI.
  • All financial donations will be used per donors request, if it is designated.
  • Sale proceeds above operation costs are used towards the home builds/repairs in Adams and Juneau County WI.

What is Habitat for Humanity’s Home Building Program?

  • A nonprofit, Christian housing ministry.
  • We believe that every person should have a decent, safe and affordable place to live.
  • We build and repair houses in Adams and Juneau Counties WI. using volunteer labor and donations.
  • Our partner families purchase these houses through  innovative financing methods such as USDA 502 Direct Loan Program.

How does it work?

  • Through volunteer and skilled labor and donations.
  • Homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor into building their Habitat house and the houses of others and volunteering at the ReStore.
  • Habitat houses are sold to partner families at fair market value (appraised value) and financed with affordable loans.
  • The homeowners’ monthly mortgage payments and sale proceeds are used to build still more Habitat houses.

How are families selected to purchase Habitat houses?

  • Families in need of decent shelter apply to local Habitat affiliates.
  • Our Family Selection Committee reviews potential homeowners based on their level of need, their willingness to become partners in the program and their ability to repay the loan.
  • We follow a nondiscriminatory policy of family selection and equal opportunity housing laws.
  • Who Is Protected By Equal Opportunity Housing Laws?

    As part of various pieces of legislation aimed at creating equal housing opportunity, home buyers cannot be discriminated against on the basis of any of the following protected characteristics:

    • Race
    • Creed
    • Color
    • National origin
    • Sexual orientation
    • Military status
    • Age
    • Gender
    • Marital status
    • Disability
    • Religion
    • Familial status
    • Whether any part of their income comes from public assistance programs like Social Security or Supplemental Security Income
    • Whether an applicant for a mortgage or rental assistance has exercised any of their rights under the Consumer Credit Protection Act of 1968 or similar state laws

Non-Proselytizing Policy

  • Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations will not proselytize.  Nor will HFH work with entities or individuals who insist on proselytizing as part of their work with HFH.  This means that HFH will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must adhere to or convert to a particular faith or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversation to a particular faith.
